Does anyone know what causes the squealing noise? It's loud and it doesn't happen everytime I turn the wheel, but it's worse the harder I turn it. It's a 1999 Protege 1.6 L w/ about 130 K miles on it. Still drives great, but this noise is worrying me.[:@]Please help!

 

My guess would be a belt. Could be the power steering pump, too. Could be something else, though.

 

either the ps pump is blown or the shaft is bent. make sure that you don't develop play in the steering column.
