Default 1999 Mazda B2500 won't start

I am having a problem with my B2500, standard, not starting. I;'ve had the timing belt changed, a general tune-up, fuel filter changed. About a month ago I had a problem with the truck not starting. I would start the truck, let off the gas, the RPM would drop to zero and the car won't stay running. Mind you, I could keep my foot on the gas while shifting, etc, and it would keep running (keep it at 1500 RPM or so), but when I let off the gas, it dies. I could drive a frew miles, then it would run OK. Let off the gas, idles at 750. Shut it off, start it -- runs fine. It would run OK for several days or several weeks. Then all of a sudden, it won't start again. Last Friday it wouldn't start, I gave it the gas long enough to get it in the garage (again, about 1200-1500RPM), let off, it died and wouldn't start again. Kept my foot on the gas, drove it around the block a few times, it starts and runs like a champ again. This morning, won't start. My mechanic is baffled at this -- he can't figure out the problem. Any ideas or anyone have this problem and know of a fix? BTW -- I didn;'t change my fuel filter for 60K miles, but I changed it two weeks ago. Any assistance to this new member would be appreciated.

Sounds an awful lot like an idle air control valve sticking closed intermittently Hizzoner. If truck starts up but will just not stay running without feathering the throttle then this would be the first thing to suspect. Often times a lite tap on the valve with a screwdriver handle when it is acting up and not wanting to idle will confirm this if suddenly the truck will idle after tapping on it.Valve is located on the side of the throttle body as in drawing below. If it does turn out to be a sticking IAC valve then a replacement would be OE part #zzm7-20-660 and gasket is aj03-20-661 with MSRP of $113.11 for valve and $1.25 for gasket. A bit cheaper at www.onlinemazdaparts.com .

Sounds abit like a toyota i had a few years back, when the choke pipe was blocked, so the computer wasnt told to give it more fuel when cold, but fine when it was warmed up.

Hope you get it sorted.

Cheers Roland
