Default RX8 WHEELS ON MAZDA3

I finally put Rx8 wheels on my Mazda3i Touring. The road noise is a little louder than the stock set up but I think it looks better and handles better aswell (Running Falken p-225-40-zr18 for tires). Exhaust CAI are next but with holidays around the corner I'll have to wait.

I put winter tires on my mazdaspeed3 today and they are rubbing on the fender flair of the car when the suspension bottoms out. I got a really good deal on my wheels that came off a RX8 and am trying to figure out if there is an easy fix for the rubbing? I went from 215/45/18 to 225-50-17 so there is only 10mm change in width and 1/8th inch bigger in radius?

any ideas?

djdaleman,

My tires on my RX-8 wheels are 225-40-zr18 and I have no rubbing even when I turn the wheels lock to lock. If your RX-8 wheels with the 215-45-18 are rubbing go with 40 instead of 45. There could be a difference between the suspension set upof your ms3 and my mazda 3.

I ran 225/45ZR17 on my Mazda3 on 17x7 wheels 60mm offset with no problems.

What size are the wheels you bought. Are they stock RX-8 wheels or were they aftermarket?

they are aftermarket steel rims. the tires just are wide enough to not clear the fender flair so there is about 2" of travel before the tire hits. I didn't know if there is a suspension adjustment or something that I can do to prevent the wheel from rubbing.

the winter tires that I put on are 225/50/17 my stock tires where 215/45/18.

thanks

I suspect the wheels you got are not necessarily the right offset for your car putting the tire close to the sheetmetal.

I run snow tires on my wife's car using stock Mazda6 wheels (I have 2 sets, 1 that came with the car, and another for the snow tires) They work great, look good, and can be had for fairly cheap if you can find someone selling a set.

I thought that the offset would have been the same for the RX8. it was a kijiji find from a small garage so I'm not too upset about it but I don't like the fact of having it rub when I hit big bumps... that is why I was wondering if there is anything that I can doo other then different rims or rubber?
