I think blacking out looks good, but I'd NEVER promote doing it on any street car or DD. Any time you black out or smoke over a light, that light gets darker and harder for others to see, which is the whole purpose of them in the first place. To me it's like leaning into the right hook of a professional boxer. Your jaw will get broken.

A friend and fellow local club member here did that using tint. It looked good, I admit!! He got rear-ended by an F150 a few weeks later.

I want my lights as bright as I can get them... especially with some of the other morons I see on the roads who clearly drive with their heads up their..... *sses.

If you do go through with tinting them I'd suggest you go with a film application like rockblocker or lamin-x. That way if you don't like it, or you screw it up you can just remove it later with no problems. Also with the films there are generally several different tints so you can go lightly smoked, or fully tinted depending on what you're looking for.

I second that Erika, but please, for your own safety don't do it.
Also a red car w/smoke tinted rears? Think about it, please.
