And oil/filter changes, and A/C work, and.....
My wife's Saturn: Had a shop look at the brakes for new linings. They had 10 different excuses why the car needed new rotor, drums and rebuilt calipers @ a cost of over $1100.
I said, "show me." It did need new wheel cyls,and new lining, and the usual turning of the rotoes and drums so I had them do it for <$500.
The A/C: Another shop. $1140 to repair the A/Cin an 11yr old car that's not worth that much, $520 in parts alone. I found the exact same parts online made by the same manufacturer and spent less than $200 including a charging set-up of R134a. Three hours later... it works better than the A/C in my car.

Well, they don't talk back. 'Don't need to be fed, housed and clothed, but thosesmuggler's commit murder if they don't get what they want.
It's a tough call.....
