Default MX-5 vs RX-8 First Car

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum so I don't know where this question belongs. I'm looking to buy my first car and I'm doubting between a 1st or 2nd gen miata or a 1st gen rx-8. I absolutely love both and where I'm from these cars are very similarly priced with the miata being slightly cheaper occasionally. What are your opinions on this? Any help will be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Odds on bet the MX-5 Miata will cost a fraction of the RX-8 to own and operate.

The MX-5 / Miata will be far easier to live with. The RX-8 would make a good second car for someone who can afford potential expensive repairs (possibly a new engine or two). It would also be difficulty to find a mechanic to work on a RX-8 with the unique rotary engine.

The Miata is an extremely reliable car that any mechanic would be happy to work on.

Drive as many Miatas as you can of each generation. Make sure it is big enough for you to be comfortable.

The best rule for buying any used car is to get one in the best condition and lowest miles you can afford. Have a mechanic check it out and make sure anything it needs is reflected in the price.

RX-8's can be very troublesome if they haven't been looked after properly, both mechanically & they way they are driven. They require regular floggings on the highways to clean out carbon build up.

Unless you are a diehard rotary fan, stick with a MX-5. Way better fuel economy, way better reliability, way more fun to drive.
