Ok I just bought a new CX-9 last night! I was going to get the extended warranty but I opted out. I have ALWAYS bought one on every car I have had in the past, and never used them, so always cashed them in. They wanted $2250 for a $100 (dissapearing deduct) 72 mo/100k miles top of the line on. I didn't know what everyone else did, or if there was a better place to get one at????

As you have experienced, people don't often get too much use out of extended warranties, which of course is why they just LOVVVEEE to sell them.

Maintain your vehicle and takes your chances. That's the best policy imo. Doing that and you are not likely to ever need an extended warranty.
