If it has a ten - twelve inch high wing on the trunk (or liftgate), or is has an exhaust pipe equipped with something that looks like a coffee can, I'd qualify it as "rice." The driver would then be a "ricer." Wierd paint jobs, like fire or ice coming off the hood, especially if it is a car with less than 300 hp, would also fit in that category.

jessica_leaann's definition also applies, although I've seen some very sad looking rustboxes that make that sound unintentionally.

Mazda's and Toyota Supra's are not rice, if done right. The huge body kit, huge wing, the loud whiny muffler (with no other exhaust parts changed) the HUGE Tach in the front, usually on a Honda, that is rice, and anybody can drive one, not just Asians

Mods in excess of the original value of the car. I.E. Doing $40,000 worth of updates to a $20,000 3.

Or, making the car look faster, while in actuality making it slower by adding the extra weight, or doing things wrong because "so-and-so did it to HIS car!"
