Default Problem w/clutch

I am knew to this site. I own a 1997 Mazda Miata. I can not change gears and the clutch has no tension. I don't if the problem is with the clutch
itself or some other part such as the clutch slave? Any suggestions
of any else I could look at would be greatly appreciated.

Did you bleed the line.

It works like a brake.

yo will have to both push and pull the pedal when bleeding because there is no fluid to return the pedal. Once fluid comes out make sure to top up the brake fluid container. Close up the bleeder and pump the pedal to see if you get positive pressure..

If there is still no improvement. Look for leaks inside the car, around the clutch master cylinder and on the Clutch Actuator.

Thanks for the advice. I ckecked the brake fluid for the clutch
when I got home and it was empty. I added the fluid and presto problem
solved unless it leaks then I have real mechanical problem.

Ah, for the days of the clutch cable instead of hydraulics. A good cable gave a good feel for what was happening, was smooth to operate and would last a long, long time, and when it finally did break, you knew what the problem was right away. No guessing, and no rebuilding of cylinders or questions about which one was bad.

Chances are good that if there was no fluid in there, you already do have a problem... which is likely, but not positively the clutch slave cylinder.

Glad it was easy to diagnose.

It should be easy to find the leak.

Ne brake fluid, even if the engine bay is dirty will look like a glossy black in dirt.

Let us know what part is leaking and we can make suggestions..

If you do find it's your slave cylinder shot, be smart and do the master at the same time, because the piston seals wear at about the same rate.
