Default Oil light on

Hi everyone

Have a Mazda CX-5 2016 2.5L diesel, 35,000km and the oil light has come on, with beeping, and the “Oil change due” alert.

Took into mechanic a few days ago when issue first arose, he changed the oil and commented that the oil was high. He did a complete oil change, but now a few days later and 50km from home the oil light has come back on, with the beeping again. I have checked the oil which looks clear and full.

Wondering what this could be and if a slow 50km drive back home would be safe?

cheers and any advice appreciated.

DM

Ok.. to answer the question ...
Yellow dash lights mean caution and/or something needs to be checked soon.
Red on the other hand means turn off engine and fine the cause of the RED warning light.
In most cases it usually ends up with the electrical connector at the oil pressure sensor, the wiring harness in some cases a false trigger from the ECU or the sensor itself. Running the engine and possible causing engine failure from "BLACK DEATH" (bearings not getting lubricated) should be a strong consideration to get it towed to a shop.

I would not drive any car with the oil light on.

The diesel engine needs the oil data reset @ every oil change. Has this been carried out? Not the service reminder but actual data inside the PCM, requires a scan tool.

Also if its the newer shape ( current shape ) they have a oil level sensor, if the oil level is too high it will throw codes & warning lights.

Checking the oil level with the dip stick requires a special procedure, otherwise you get a false reading.

Also, these diesel engines have a bad habit of blocking up the oil pick-up, starving the engine of oil pressure.& they have a habit of snapping the oil pump drive chain.

Get towed to a reputable workshop and get it scanned for fault codes. P06DE or P055F are usually death codes.

Could you get a P055F if you fail to reset the oil data after an oil change?

P055F is low oil pressure, nothing to do with the oil change or data reset.

I have an update on my 2017 Mazda CX-5 2.2 SkyActiv Diesel. Its not good news.

There is a big problem with this Mazda engine which the oil strainer to become blocked causing P055F and P0524 error codes to come up. These codes cause the red oil pressure and yellow check engine light to come up on the dash. A little research on the Internet and Youtube shows that this is in fact a relatively common problem with the Mazdas.

Mazda have fixed it at a cost of £1600 and the car has been regularly serviced by a Mazda main dealer in the UK. The car has been used for long motorway miles, so it really should not have had this problem.

It turns out the oil strainer was blocked by carbon deposits. The strainer is essentially a filter inside the car, which cannot be replaced without significant dismantling of the oil sump, removal of the oil pump, and dismantling the oil pump to get to the oil strainer. The oil strainer costs just £25 but the labour made up the lion share of the cost. Why would you put a filter in such an inaccessible part of the car? Oil filters, air filters and even cabin filters are easy to get to - so why do this? Why make it so hard to replace a part that is going to get blocked? Why has Mazda not modified the engine to make this part more accessible and easier to change? Why are they happy to charge 1/4 of the car's value to replace this part - it strikes me as poor design.

This is my first and last Mazda - awful experience. Costly and stressful. Not impressed with Mazda at all. I cannot recommend a Mazda or a CX5 to anyone; in fact I would urge everyone to avoid buying this car.

You really at this point are on a rant

At least let new and regular members ask their question and have some of work through their problems without your negative opinionated cometary about how you feel about Mazda

WE GET IT!!!
