newbie... potential future cx5 owner
Hi all, my first post in this forum. i decided to join in since I am doing some research about my next family car. Since I want something spacious, stylish, economical and fun to drive, naturally I am seriously thinking about a 2013 CX5 SE-L Nav 2.2 [150] AWD. Most of my driving is done around the city or stuck in traffic but i do like to have a drive once in a while. The CX-5 awd will also be good for going on a sandy beach with all the 'necessary' staff of my wife and kid!
My questions are... is there anything i should be careful of? I have also not seen many horror stories - is it too good to be true? also, i think the 2.2 diesel requires very frequent oil changes - is it true?
thanks a lot
Mark

1st up most of the members here are in the USA, which don't get diesel Mazda's.
How many kms/miles has the vehicle done?
Does it have a full & proper service history?
Mazda recommends services every 10,000kms, or 12 months. Personally I would change the oil every 7-8,000kms.
There has been quite a few cases of the Diesel engines failing in Australia where I work for Mazda. Weird issues with massive wear on the Exhaust cam lobes too.
Definitely get it checked out & look into a mechanical warranty policy.
I'm not trying to scare you off, just trying to keep you informed. They are a fantastic vehicle and go like stink when you hit the gas pedal.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I understand what you mean. I currently have a ford focus 1.6 tdci. They are regarded as one of the less reliable diesel engine ever but mine has clocked around 190,000km of mostly city driving without a problem, except having to take out the DPF - I believe I managed that by my 'paranoid' service schedule. I was also looking at that Skyactive-D design and it looks really fascinating but also complicated. I really do believe it may be even more unreliable than the tdci if not taken care of, ie oil changes every 7-8000km, which is what I currently do on my Focus.
