Yes. I recommend changing it at or before 1000 miles.
I and we service hundreds of new and used vehicles every year and changing the oil more frequently as the engine gets older is a must. On a new engine it is a good idea to change the oil and filter to get all the assembly lubes and break in particles removed sooner than later.

The reason for the on or before the 1000 miles on a new engine is first to establish a baseline of oil and filter service from the new owner. And the most supported reason is to remove all the other assemble lubricates and other chemicals that are used during the assembly process as well as the first few hundred miles the engine will shed the most about of metal material based on it being a new engine. There is not perfect machining ,casting and finishing of mating material especially on the reciprocation assembly and valvetrain.
I have build several *"Blueprinted" engine (*nearly humanly perfect in all respects) and even in an assembly clean room there are still by products that remain in the engine until after the first basic oil and filter service.

Maybe next time I will post an odd number so it is not so confused maybe on or before the first 999 miles.
