wsup all? just signed up to ur forum. my name is greg, from long island. i have an 02 protege5 that i got in 05 with 16k on the clock. i love this car, getting bored with it tho. i put 50k miles on it since i got it and all its needed was a fuel pump that was replaced under warranty. lookin to get rid of it soon but its such a good car i almost dont want to sell it. i found some stock rx-8 rims i was gonna put on but not sure if its a good idea. any body try this? i have seen pics of those wheels on the mp5 and they look good but i got the eibach pro kit springs and i dont know if theres gonna be any issues. b4 i buy the rims and put rubber on i would like to make sure its a clean fit. thanks in advance for any info.

 

I'm not sure about the clearance issues, though I too have seen 8 whweels on a P5, but you should consider the extra weight of these wheels. They are 24-25lbs ea, and though I don't know the weight of a factory P5 alloy, they will certainly be heavier. This can/will reduce your mileage as well as overall handling, braking and steering performance of the car.
If you want bigger wheels, look to the AM and stick w/the lightest you can find that suit your tastes.Watch that the offset of the new wheel is not too far outeither as this can cause problems.That's my advice.

 

they should fit, but you may need to space them a little. some people have had problems with them hitting struts. welcome to the boards.

 

Thanx for the tips. i didnt think about the weight, good call virgin. i can say though that the stock wheels are not light at all. i replaced the 16s with some 17s i got from a friend and like the look but think its time to bump it up while i have tha chance. i dont race and do mostly local driving back and forth to work so i dont think theres gonna b an issue as far as handling or performance. heres a before and after shot.
