Default new member, old car

I'm new to the forum (joined today) and really need some help!! I have an '88 323 hatchback that's bone stock...and a 15 year old son who will be inheriting the mazda as his 1st car. My wife and I wanna "spiff it up" a bit for him; wheels, window tint, stereo, seats, paint, etc; but really dont know where to start and don't have a small fortune to dump into it. My idea is to attempt either a gtx or mazda3 cosmetic clone until I get a little more educated about the car as far as what's even possible. I think it's a really cool little car, have had no major problems or issues with it at all, but it's at a point now that it needs some suspension and brake maintainence. Only 144k miles too, and like I said before, completely original, and nothing special. So feel free to hit me up with ideas or suggestions.

thanks - Jim

Hey oldschool323. Welcome!!
Try hitting up the junkyards and swap meets for parts and ideas. Stereo stuff, seats, consolesand wheels/tirescan often be had that way.
And if you have an old school junkyard around your way, you just might get lucky and find a donor car(s) too.
I once built up a Honda using all kinds of parts from other cars... but you do have to research and occasionally just go for it, if you know what I mean.

It could be a fun way to learn and help your son learn how to do things in life!!
