New to the forum
Hello all! I'm the recent new owner of a 2016 Mazda 2 Sport Nav 115bhp in Deep Crystal Blue Mica (Stone leather interior) and am really pleased to join a healthy forum for the Mazda community.
Why Mazda? Well I was looking for something that had as many, if not more techy toys than my outgoing 2006 Citroen C4 Coupé (and that had a lot, believe me), but was fun to drive and had more grunt than the Citroen (which was a very laid-back drive!). I don't need a big car so the Mazda 2 fitted the bill, and to top it off it looks amazing too.
To bring it up to the Citroen C4 spec, I've added a Mazda arm rest (with very handy storage) and the Mazda auto-fold wing mirror kit, so no need to turn the mirror adjuster dial to 'fold' before getting out of the car. Just walk away and they fold. I've also popped in the Mazda ambient footwell lighting kit, so that completes the missing tech that the Citroen had. I then saw a reversing camera from a 2 that was being broken on ebay so thought hey, why not. One wiring harness later and the camera works a treat.
So that's me. I'm looking forward to seeing what other members are up to and hopefully will seek advice on the couple of small Mazda quirks I've been discovering. Thanks!

I have a US version of the 2016 Mazda2 for my kids and I drive a Mazda3.
I love the 2. The only things I wish it had is a center arm rest, the button on the handle to open the doors and a little more horsepower.
I may make it my daily driver when the second graduates.
Welcome to the forum and enjoy your Mazda.

The 115 bhp has a good amount of shove in it and it's a light car that so makes it feel more potent. I really like the 6 speed manual gearbox too, although I'm still finding the shift from 1st to 2nd hard to do smoothly. I've only ever driven manuals in 25 years of driving and this is the first car I struggle to be smooth in. It seems the revs fall back down very slowly after clutch down before going into second. Leaving it a bit longer to allow them to fall before clutch up in second gets a smoother shift. I find this really weird and wonder if this is standard to the Mazda 2? Moving through all the other gears is fine and buttery smooth.

The 115 bhp has a good amount of shove in it and it's a light car which makes it feel pretty quick. I really like the 6 speed manual gearbox too, although I'm finding the shift from 1st to 2nd hard to do smoothly. This really took me by surprise as I've only ever driven manuals in my 25 years of driving and am a very smooth driver. My shifting is smooth as silk in the other cars in my household (Mini Cooper, Hyundai i30) and in the cars I drive for work (Audi A3, VW Golf). This is the first car I struggle to be smooth in. It seems the revs fall back down very slowly after clutch down before going into second. Leaving it a bit longer to allow them to fall before clutch up in second gets a smoother shift. I find this really weird and wonder if this is standard to the Mazda 2? Does anyone else have this problem?
I've read about something called rev hang – when the throttle is closed quickly, engine speed does not drop instantly but decays slowly due to artificial delay programmed in the ECU. Does this sound like the issue I'm having? Is this the right place to ask this question, or is it better in the main Mazda 2 forum?
Interesting. I have not driven a Mazda manual transmission in a while but remember them to be the best on the market. I do have a 2006 MINI and find the manual to be nowhere near as smooth as I remember the Mazda's to be.
I would go to a dealership and drive another Mazda and see how they operate.
I find the power adequate in the Mazda2. I am also considering trading in my 2019 Mazda3 with 186 HP for a 2021 with the Turbo that will likely have 250 and 310 torque.

Hi there, and welcome!
I would maybe suggest starting a new post in the New Member Area to introduce yourself. That way it's a new discussion and more people will be able to see it and say "Hi". It might get missed here at the bottom of an existing post and we wouldn't want that.
Moderators/Senior Members – is that the best thing to do?
