Question mazda 3 hatchback AT error

Hey guys great forum I have been checking here for a while but recently decided to join. I have a 2008 mazda 3 1.6l hatchback recently I noticed that when driving over 80km/hr (50mph) for an extended period of time the vehicle sometimes switch into 3rd and the AT light comes on it does not stay long (appx about 30 seconds to a minute......it does not happen every time but like once per trip..... I called the dealer for a scan but they says because the light does not stay on then the diagnostic equipment will not be able to ascertain the fault....but they say its probably a sensor goin bad....has anybody had this kind of problems and if so how did u solve it....

P.S. I am in the caribbean and the vehicle was imported from Japan

an error code will be stored in the computer so the diagnostics will be able to read it

Some parts stores here in the States offer free code reading. You may look into that before spending +/-$100 to have the dealer check it for you?

I'm not that familiar w/the auto trans, but I have heard of a sensor that can be accessed from outside that may be causing this problem you describe.
