Hi all, I'm new here. My daughter lives in St. Petersburg FL and she's looking for a good and reasonably priced mechanic/shop to carry out basic maintenance. Anyone in the St. Pete/Tampa area know a good independent shop? She has a Mazda MX-5. Thanks for any help you can provide.

You should always look for a shop that has an ASE sign . As contracted by ASE, they are only allowed to hang that sign if they have at least 1 certified ASE working in the shop. You will also see that employees certification(s) hung in the office or shop area. You will know that you at least are getting a specialized trained Mechanic or Automotive Technician and not a general mechanics that own a set of tools and work on a car once! ha!

As for shop hourly rate that varies depending on your area.

You can also check with your local BBB for their listing and comments?
