Just inherated an 87 B2000
Well my grandpa passed away on Tuesday and im going to be getting his 87 B2000. Its bare bones no ps ac or anything like that. The tailgate is bungy chorded up and the drivers door has no lock on it, I think it pulled off the rod (i have ot check still). Im going to do a full fluid flush of everything and do a full tune up. Its got 8XXXX miles on it so it can use it as its 20 years old and never had one. Anything I should know about this truck, or any helpful hints on things I should do? Its a 5 speed I don’t know if that matters at all. Anyway jsut wanted to say hi[&:]
a thorough once over is always good. i would steer clear of oil detergents on a motor that old though. you didn't bring it up but i thought that i would get that out there. my friend used an oil detergent on his car to clean the motor out and he had several expensive oil leaks. fuel treatments are good though. if you are good with your hands, i would recommend a new set of seals and gaskets.
iv restored a cars and do all my own work, so doing stuff to this thing isnt ap roblem. My plans were just to flush all fluids do a full tune up (no engine cleaner stuff) and yes add the fuel system cleaner. Its also gettign all new brake pads as well. I have no reason to change any seals or anything, because as far as i know so far everything is ok and I dont want to put a lot of money into a truck thats worth 100 bucks.
thanks, it was hard but it gets easier everyday, he was kinda like a second father to me and I really miss him. So i kinda wanna keep his truck alive, it was the first vehicle I learned how to drive stick in, and he was the one who taught me
