Default Bluetooth connection

I had been following along with the iPod issues and brought my cx5 in to the dealer in the Fall for the Bluetooth connection so the iPod would work. Problem solved. Thanks for the advice. I never use my phone in the car but thought I should hands free. Well now it won't sync -error. Anyone have this issue after getting iPod /Bluetooth part fixed?

Check and see if your phone is compatible with the Mazda Bluetooth. Most aren't and they don't tell you that until AFTER you've purchased the vehicle and tried to use it. If you have an iPhone, they'll tell you it's Apple's fault which is a complete crock. The real issue is Mazda's lousy electronics.

This is false. It is Apple's fault. The past 4 vehicles I've had all have the exact same functions absent due to Apple not supporting certain features such as voice-to-text replies. I currently use an iPhone 6s Plus with my 2016 CX-5 and it works seamlessly except for the text replies and missing Gracenote album art...both are issues I will gladly deal with in order to use an iPhone over a Droid.

No, it's not Apple's fault - it's Mazda. All of these phones have the exact same technology when it comes to bluetooth compatibility. Why? Because everyone and his mother is now making bluetooth compatible devices so it makes good business sense to have the phone use a generic card for bluetooth. Mazda cheaped out on all of their electronics and even admitted that to me.

I have a 2014 CX-5 and an iPhone 5S. My phone came out the same year as the car yet it's not compatible. Nor is the iPhone 6. It seems that the only phones that are compatible as the worst ones on the market such as the Android (absolute crap).

I've been through this with Mazda and their so-called "technicians" told me flat out that Mazda simply didn't bother with better electronics. They cut corners when it came to that so this is why there are so many issues. Just google "Mazda bluetooth" and see all the responses from people who had to have the bluetooth module replaced (some more than once) just to get their phone to connect. I had to have mine replaced within a week after I bought this garbage. It's pathetic and Mazda service is an absolute joke. Never seen such incompetence in my life.

Apple does not conform to Bluetooth MAP requirements. MAP is a protocol (Message Access Protocol) designed by Bluetooth SIG and not by Apple. Due to this lack of protocol compliance, you cannot send text messages and you cannot see older text messages that are in your history. What you can see is new text messages that you’ve received after the phone initially pairs to the vehicle each and every time you get in and start up the vehicle.

I know for a fact that no iPhone will allow bluetooth voice-to-text on Ford Sync, Chrysler's UConnect, Toyota's, Honda's, and Hyundai's. I have used an iPhone 4s, 5s, and now a 6s on each of these systems since 2011 and not one of them will allow voice-to-text on an iPhone. I have owned a brand new Toyota and Jeep within the past 2 years and neither have supported it either.

I'm not sure about the electronics on the 2014 Mazda, but mine are great (except the incredibly ****ty back-up camera that is next to impossible to see at night) in my 2016.

However, even though the voice-to-text feature is not supported, you may still use Siri to most anything. When you press the Siri button, it should interrupt anything you have playing and allow you to use voice-to-text. It just isn't a feature that you will find built into buttons on your steering wheel and you won't find messages showing on your head unit screen.

Funny thing is that about the only good part of the electronics on my CX5 is the backup camera. Clear and wide view although I rarely use it. Rest of the electronics are garbage.

I spoke with Apple about this too and they told me it's not them. They're using standard protocols that should be compatible across all makes and models. I too used my phone with rental cars of various brands (Ford, Dodge, Honda, etc.) and had no issues with the bluetooth. Apple did say they would open a case on this and investigate but I'm not holding my breath for it. The tech also advised me to use Siri for the text feature.

Personally, I don't care about the reply text option on the bluetooth except for the fact that I paid for it. Mazda hyped up their HD Bose Stereo with bluetooth compatibility and it's really low-grade garbage. HD on a Mazda stands for "highly defective" as far as I can tell.
