Hey guys

I am currently looking for a Mazda 6, have found a 2004 diesal sport model, but it has done 139k miles, is this car still ok? Or will I start having lots of problems with it?

 

Well that is high milage for an '04, but I'm thinking that it doesn't quite mean the same thing with a diesel vs. a gasoline engine. But besides the engine, you should get the car examined by a mechanic. Milage alone is not the ultimate indicator of how good or bad any given car will be.

 

Yeah I agree that may be a ton of miles but for an '04 if your mechanic can't find anything and if the original owner took good care of it the miles wil only decrease the sticker price by quite a bit.

 

Diesel engines are not a typical "otto cycle" engine. Diesels are run with no spark plug and the gas and air ignites by high compression. What does this mean for durability? They last a lot longer. usually tracker trailers dont need an engine overhaul until they reach 1,000,000 miles. Thast right! So 139k is a lot, I have a '05 and I am at about 56,400 miles and I thought that is a lot, I have a gasoline engine...Just pay the mechanic 50 bucks or so and have him go through it...Having that many miles you should be able to get it for a lot less...

 

Is there anything specific I should be looking for that will start going wrong at this mileage?
