Wanted to make my 06 console look like the radio
Thats a good idea. I was looking for the atenza in japan and they have it on theirs all the way down or most of it for the highest model. Maybe I can see if I can get it from japan. Not sure if it would fit though.

Hum interesting. I think I will have my husbands dad look into that for me. Ask around. Hum. If not I will do a small piece and paint in like you suggested. Thanks so much for your help.
I'm checking with one of my Mazda Engineering contacts to see if the attachment points are the same between the Atenza/Mazda6. I'll post in here to let you know.
Those panels are fairly easy to pull out.
The cupholder panel just pulls straight up (no fasteners holding it in, just plastic clips.)
If you unscrew the shift **** and disconnect the lightbulbs for the PRNDL bezel, you can pull the ashtray panel and PRNDL bezel out as (1) assembly. That will expose a couple of screws along the bottom of the radio that you need to pull out, then the radio assembly pulls straight out of the IP.
The hardest part you'll have is separating the radio faceplate from the main part of the radio. I'm not sure how they are attached together.

I just got off the phone with the Interior Engineer on the Mazda6 program. He says that the attachment points are the same for the radio, ashtray panel, and cupholder between the Atenza/Mazda6. The only difference you'll run into is that for North America, the 06MY only has a powerpoint, not a cigarette lighter socket in the ashtray panel. (powerpoint socket lacks the "push-back" feature of a cigarette lighter socket, this feature pushes the cigarette lighter plug out once heated up.)
You should be able to order Atenza service panels and retrofit your car with them. (BTW...that would look sweet.)

very cool... bet that is going to look very sharp in your car. let us know if you decide to go with this project and get some pictures if you do!
