Default Transmission Cooler...

I have heard that the ATX tranny runs quite hot . Somewhere around 190 deg. I live in ohio, so it is a normal climate. 90's in the summer. 10's in the winter. For normal everyday driving, it is really necessary to have a tranny cooler? I woud like to keep this car for at least 150,000 miles. The engine seems quite strong. But the tranny doesn't impress me. What are everyones expert thoughts!?

for the most part, you can't go wrong by installing one. it will for sure extend the life of the tranny by decreasing heat. only thing to keep in mind is those 10* days to go easy on it for a bit to get to operating temps. i've had one on for about 25k and it made a great improvement, tranny would have been dead long before now without it.

shift is a bit smoother yes, but nothing shocking, just subtle. you can get a tranny cooler anywhere from $40 to $400....just depends what you want and how much cooling you think you need. typically you can get away with a 14k to 19k unit without any issues, which can be had and local automotive stores or even Uhaul centers.

you can always just check out the "how to" on mazda6tech.com and go with that route....that's what i did and things worked out just fine. don't really know how the dealer would feel about asking them about adding parts.

Well. I do not want to boid the warranty. The tranny is running fine now. I always have the rule of if it isnt broke dont fix it. I do want to cause some new problems that perhaps wouldn't be covered by the warranty.

just wait until after you warranty is up then, as they will most likely give you crap for it if there is issues with the tranny.
