Default Stalling out on a long trip.

Took a trip to Memphis from Tulsa this weekend. It's about a 7 hour trip. Around 6 hours into it, my 2005 mazda 6 refused to accelerate. I had the cruise control set and the A/C on. I turned both off and it still would not accelerate. It would stall hard and shake the car violently. It's a DOHC V6 with the sport shifter. I pulled off the highway and it didn't shift out of 6th gear until I was almost to a complete stop. Then it had trouble getting out of 1st. I parked the car and checked the fluids. Everything was good so I let it sit for about an hour while we ate. When we got back in, it ran fine for about another 4 hours then it started doing it again. We stopped let it cool down for about an hour. It ran fine again and ran fine the rest of the way home after the temperature dropped. It runs fine now that I'm back in tulsa and not driving massive distances. What could it be that needs to be fixed?

What is the mileage on your car? It sounds like either the TCM or the trans might be showing signs of going bad. Take the car to a certified trans repair facility like Aamco & have them look at it. Could also be the T/body, but doesn't sound like it. Have you ever removed and cleaned it?

yup, it seems the tranny is not taking long trips well. The continuous heat might be causing a problem. I would say that is time to get it checked. Have you changed the tranny fluid before? The tranny fluid needs to be replaced too... good luck

Default sorry

Sorry for the extended leave. I was moving. I bought the car at 32,000 miles it is currently at 41,000. I have not changed the fluid. I purchased a maintenance plan from the dealership that covers the drivetrain as long as i get my scheduled maintenance done at their facility. I was under the assumption that because the car had always been serviced there, they would have a service plan laid out for it. I believe I was wrong.
