Problems after driving thru water
2011 Mazda6 6-speed with 142k. A few days ago I very stupidly drove through about 5 or six inches of water that overflowed onto roads I needed to drive on to get home. There were three areas of water and I got through each one without losing power, but we did smell a bit of a electrical burning smell. On the way home I did notice that the engine wasn't running as smoothly as I was used to, but I figured it just needed to dry out. It's been a week now, and the car is driveable, but the engine revs higher when I switch gears and doesn't have much power when this occurs. No check engine or other dashboard lights are on or ever came on. The car starts up fine everytime now, although the first few times the next day it did take a few attempts to start. Just got a brief hum (didn't turn over) but would start on the third try. The air filter never got wet and I didn't see any water on the oil dipstick. I tried a container of HEET, and that seemed to help just a little. Any ideas what was affected? Gas/engine? Transmission? Something electrical? Any guidance would be much appreciated!
