power steering fluid

power steering fluid
Is there a specific grade/brand of power steering fluid recommended for these? I did not come up with anything on Rock Auto (generic PS fluid) or a couple of other parts sites including a Mazda dealer....
Can I just use the Pentosin 11S fluid from my BMW?
I found this site but it does not seem to say what year it is for...

Fluid specification ATF M-III or equivalent (e.g. DexronŽII)

What model year is yours and what part of the world are you in? Mazda fitted a different system in Europe as opposed to American markets.
That will probably be for the GG model or certain GH models depending on where you are.
I.e if you live in Europe and have a GH it's an electric system and has no fluid at all. Therefore the ATF fluid will more than likely cover all models that actually have the hydraulic system

Okay, I would double check in your owners manual as it will say under specifications. But I'm pretty sure it will be ATF-M-V.
It probably would not be ideal to use the Pentosin oil because the specification is different, Ford Spec M2C202-B for ATF as opposed to M2C204-A for Pentosin (although I think it's also sold under Titan Fuchs). ATF-M-V is also cheaper than Pentosin so it's best to keep that for the BMW 😂😂
I find it strange that 2010 models in America had hydraulic power steering while over here in the UK we got an electric system. No idea why Mazda did that.

Thanks for the feedback and Ford ATF spec. I looked for that and the Dexron II that was called out... I had bought some Valvoline MaxLife full syn ATF to use in the tranny filter/flush and it says it meets both Dexron Ii, III and IV and Mercron LV. Looking up the Mazda ATF fluid (PN 0000-77-120E-05) it shows as Mercon V on the bottle. (Edit- Mercon V is wrong fluid for this trans. Need M5 spec trans fluid)
Bobs is the oil guy threads show Mercon LV (low viscosity) is not compatible with Mercon V. The Mercon V is more viscous which matters in how the tranny runs.
Looking at Valvoline website for the maxlife multivehicle ATF (red/orange bottle) shows it is compatible for Mazda M-V and FZ ATF. (Edit - found this Valvoline ATF synthetic fluid changed a few years ago and no longer recommended for M5 or Mazda M-V trans fluid replacement. )
Seems like I should be able to use the maxlife in the tranny and PS too? I am only nerding out on this as i know the wrong fluid can screw up your seals and transmission... Planning to walk my son through dropping the trans pan and changing it tomorrow.
I think electric steering sucks and sorry if you got stuck with it. BMW did this too (in my 2016 550i) and you really lose a lot of the road feel when driving.

That's interesting to know. You can use it for transmission fluid too. However, only for an automatic. For manual gearboxes it's GL 4 or GL 5, depending on country and engine.
The electric power steering is pretty decent. It's a nice feel and I didn't even notice it until I checked. Surprisingly its an engaging drive, my Mazda 2 is the same. It's much better than some of the BMW ones, driving wise, reliability ain't so great. I've driven a 640 and I know what you mean, it doesn't feel right, it's too artificial.
