I don't think that any one of the major brand names has a significant advantage over the others.
Maintaining a good change interval is more important than the brand.
I do like Valvoline....but that's just because it is the most clear and clean looking when you first pour it out of the bottle. It probably doesn't protect any better than Pennzker State, but I feel better about it. Conversely, Castrol is the darkest.
In my turbo Chrysler I use Pennzoil Platinum full synthetic. I was using Mobil 1 but the Pennzoil is about 3 bucks less per change.

If you have a Pep Boys near you, check their paper to see if they have put Penzoil Platinum back on sale with the mail-in rebate. $1.99 per quart, a steal for oil that returns such great Used Oil Analyses. Mobil1 is a great oil as well, but PP is a better value at the moment.
