In most instances, bigger is better, but in this case (I believe) there are way more options on the Focus 2.0L than there are on the Mazda 2.3L as far as performance parts. 2.0L also doesn't have VVT (which may make it easier to tune....just guessing.)

I'm actually using the bottom end of the 2.3 focus, it's the same engine. there are no upgrades at this point with the new mazda's, ecu's to picky, so no options out there. there is a guy back east taking the same block out to a 2.5, but he hasn't finished any yet. the main reason i went with the focus is the guys that did the work build focus race cars for a living. i was cheaper for me to swap one of the blocks he had around, rather than pull mine and do all the work on it. top end still has VVT, don't know what the ECU would do without it, so not worth trying yet.

obviously a larger engine would net more, but even the 350hp i'm seaking is mostly dyno. there isn't really a way to utilize 350+hp on the street, so the more i get now just becomes a waiste. though i would like to make the engine more efficient, getting the power with less boost, but just wasn't an option yet.

As far as the 1/4 times go, i think it would be nice to see 12's, but with the ATX i think low 13's might be more attainable. i do open track for the most part, only reason i would drag the car is because people always want to know what it does on the 1/4.

i assumed it was the 2.0 sorry... i knew there was a big history with ford and the 2.3 motor back in the day it was the turbo coupes and they would take the 8v head off and run a volvo 16v head...

ford figured out the trick and made this 2.3 and the focus 2.3.... i assumed there would already be an aftermarket for these engines....

either way 350hp isnt too bad on the street. unless its all turbo then you might have some issues with traction and turning. but hey good luck let us know what it does for hp and also i know this isnt the popular question but what do the torque numbers look like... or better yet what will the toque numbers be like?
