The trans fluid used is dependent on where you live actually. It says your in San Antonio so it would benefit from using a thicker oil than what it came with.

GL4 or GL5 (cold)
75-90 (moderate)
80-90 (above 50 degrees)

The hotter the environment the thicker the oil you want to use. If you use a thicker oil and it gets below 50 degrees then it will shift a little stiff until warmed up.

If it has a spring and check ball in the hole it is for a shift rod detent. If it has a smaller diameter protrusion about 1 inch long then it holds reverse idler gear. If it is just flat with maybe a magnet on it it is likely a fill plug.

it is a large diameter with a torque bit head and standard theads,it is the fluid and the location that i am concerned about, the fill bolt in the engine bay above it is an allen head, if you look directly at the master cylinder, it is left and directly down about 12-14"

Why not just put the bolt back in, drain and refill the trans.
