Guys, I have found another review on the Mazda6, this one is from Car&Drivers

They were doing a long-term testing on the 2004 Mazda6 5speed manual...
here are some numbers on a new 6 and one with 40k on it...

Zero to 60 mph:
new=6.4sec 40k=6.9sec

Zero to 100 mph:
new=17.7sec 40k=18.2 sec

Street start, 5-60 mph:
new=7.3 sec 40k=7.6 sec

Standing 1/4-mile:
new=15.1sec@93mph 40k=15.4sec@93mph

Braking, 70-0 mph:
new=178ft 40k=190ft

Roadholding,300-ft-dia skidpad:
new=0.84g 40k=0.83g

I have gotten my 6 up to 120 no problem...however I stopped once I reached 120 so I do not know what happens from there. I am debating on whether or not to get the govenor taken off or not..

i honestly think its all on who drives the car. cause earlier in the thread you guys posted the accord v6 is slightly faster than our 6. my boy has the 05. accord v6 and i murdered him till the speed limiter. pull on him from the start4 times in a row. he has an auto tho so his shifting wasnt the issue. why they limit our cars so low? it has so much more, i have took it to the limiter umerous time and it does all but struggle to get there. i also raced a rsx type-s a-spec. he got me 1st and 2nd gear but i started walking him in 3rd and 4th. i would give the car(well at least my car 0-60 in low 6sec. and to the limiter liike 18 secs. i think car and driver babies the cars when they drive them, have you ever really watched them drive. they dont really drive, if u know what i mean! just my opinion! oh yea, my six is still bone stock! the only car i have been beat by that i have raced was a lexus gs 400 with the V8 in it.........but again i started to gain in 3rd but ran outta road

It is always who is driving the car. But when they take times in magazines they have professionals do it, multiple upon multiple times and some take the average and some take the faster speed.

Yeah, the driver counts a lot. Also are you willing to ruin the clutch by popping it at 4000 rpm on 1st ? With auto trans, they do speed runs by holding the brake with one foot while reving up to 4000 rpm and then release the brake. It's fun until you have to pay for it. Car Mags don't and manufacturers like them to report the quick 0-60 times as they want to sell more cars.

well to some degree i agree it depends on the drivers...
but that shouldnt make a difference when a car mag is reviewing/comparing multiple cars, as long as the way they drive all those cars are consistant, the numbers should reflect a car's performance...relatively.

I come from a cobra mustang which I still have and this 6 is fast.
Faster than most other 4 doors out there. I have been over 100 many times and takes no time at all to get there for a v6

umm...from your link,
the Mazda6 do 0-100 in 18.7 sec, but 0-110 in 29.8 sec?!
this would actually make more sense if the mazda do in fact do 0-100 in 25
acceleration slows down as you get into higher speeds for example 0-10 would be less than 10-20 and that'd be less than 20-30 etc. A car in the class of the Mazda6's would probably take quite a while to get from 100 to 110

The speed limiter is exactly that a TOP speed limiter. It isn't a rev limiter in the finer sense.

My wife's Mazda6 wagon shuts down at an indicated 124 mph, and it pulls fine right up to that speed, I believe I was around 4800 rpm at the time. (Acceleration does noticably slow down after 100 mph, mainly due to the amount of drag at that speed. Drag on a car is proportional to the velocity of the vehicle squared, so the drag goes up exponentially as speed increases.)

I'd estimate that without the top speed limiter, the V6 Mazda6 would top out around 145. The performance of this car is more than adequate for the usage. I'm more impressed with a car that can corner at 80 mph than by a car with a couple of tenths faster 1/4 & 0-60 times.

As fas as I'm concerned, if it isn't going 0-60 in less than 5 seconds and into at least 12's in the quarter, then it's slow. Why should you care if you can out accelerate a slow car?
