Default Mazda 6 2010 open door icon

Icon for open door goes on sometimes when either sitting at a red light or even sitting in the garage after a few hours. I don't want to tax the battery so I took the front door courtesy lite lamps out and turned off the dome lite. I do believe the problem is the door latch assemble that may be defective. Inquired with the dealer and found out its a rather expensive repair between the assembly part/labor +tax. Anyone have a work-a-round for this stupid problem? Appreciate any advice. Thanks.

I had a similar problem in a non-Mazda. I put some electrical tape over some paper to reduce the distance the switch had to extend to indicate the door was closed. Black tape on a black door, never noticed the tape or had the problem after that point.

I don't know if this will work for you but if it does, it could be a cheap fix.

Not sure where you put the electrical tape? Over what paper?

My fix was not in a Mazda so I am not sure if it is relevant to your situation.

I that car, there was a switch that was depressed when the door was closed turning off the light. The switch was not depressed enough intermittently to indicate the door was closed. I built up a lump with paper covered by tape that was roughly 1/4 to 3/8 inch tall to reduce the distance the switch had to travel.

I used a paper towel under the tape to give it the depth needed but not too firm to cause other problems.

The switch/latch assembly is inside the door panel in order for me to get access to it. There was a rec all 2013 for the door latches. Just wondering if the fix precipitated this issue? Guess i'll never know. Here is link for that:
