Actually if you have the V6 it's none of what you mentioned, but exactly what you probably thought. That engine is a freaking guzzling monster. For a car the size of the 6 it really does make the car move pretty well, but is certainly not economical in any fashion. My roomate has an Audi S5 with a V8 that gets better gas millage than my 6. So know that you're not alone. Even the 4 banger isn't nearly as good on gas as it should be. I've actually found premium makes the millage worse (then again it does inspire a heavier foot).

My wife's car gets around 300 or so to a tank in winter, a little more in summer. I don't really understand why the Mazda6 seems to get lower mileage than other Ford family cars with the same engine (my 2000 Taurus w/111,000 miles has the same 3.0L 24V V6 and I get around 24-26 mpg)

The 4-cylinder should be getting much better mileage than the 6-cylinder.

The development cars I drove were usually in the 26-27 mpg range.

i also have a 2004 6 wagon and gas mi is not great. i would guess the weight of the 6 doesn’t help any.. i updated to a drop in k&n air filter to try and create the best environment possible but really didn’t see a difference. just the personality of the 6 i guess..

Did'nt the Taurus have hp rating of 200 vs, 212 for the 6? Then too, the Ford Fusion V6 gets slightly better milage that the Mazda 6S and I believe it's rated at 221hp. Go figure.

Yeah, and I don't think the Taurus and Fusion are lighter....must be the gearing.

Get 330 mi on 3/4 tank - which is about 27/28 mpg. Usually do about 72-75 on the highway. 6s V6 3.0

My 2007 6 Wagon 3.0L engine is getting between 14 and 11 litres/100km (20 to 26mpg) depending on the traffic situation. On a recent 600+ km trip, mostly highway, I was getting 8l/100km (35mpg). I'm very satisfied. It sure beats my old Windstar!!!!
