Default Many electrical problems !!

I have a 53' Mazda 6 which out of the blue failed to start with absolutely no response by turning the key. Thinking that the battery was flat I jump started it and everything went crazy...it wouldn't change gear, would only continue running if I revved the nuts of it and the wind screen wipers went crazy !! Put a new battery on it and the car was fine for a couple of hours but then wouldn't start again. Jump started it and took it to the garage, they managed to get the car running and it was fine starting up again....however, they could not completely fix it, the cruise control does not work, the heaters are on constantly and the radio won't come on (CD's play but with very poor quality sound). The air bag and battery light are both lit all the time. Alternator and battery checked and both fine. This is driving me mad and any suggestions/help would be gratefully received !!
