Default IMPORTANT FIND.................SO FAR!

ok........this pertains to people specifically with the Injen CAI installed on their cars experiencing CEL's

anyway this is what went down....ive had the Injen CAI on my car for about 6months or so......i knew about the CEL issue with them but 've always liked Injen products so i said oh well..........

originally i thought i fixed the CEL problem by hooking up that 2nd vacumm sensor that was on the factory intake.....where everyone told me to leave it off........i didnt get a cel with that done for about 50miles then it lit up so that was out the window. caused by the ECU seeing a lean condition!

now on a regular basis once i reset my ecu and clear the codes.......the light is usually back on in under30-40 miles driven.

But 2 days ago i came across something on my intake while doing the Coolant Bypass on the throttle body.

The smaller nipple towards the middle of the intake where the small vacumm line hooks up, didnt have a hole in it at all......so im wondering to myself why isnt there a hole there? because honestly i started thinking about how my escort fuel system works(returnless just like the 6) in my escort the fuel pressure regulator is electronic and uses vacumm reading and such to help get the right fuel pressure to the rail. if u had any vacumm leak in the car it would run lean and/or run like ****......i know because i had a leak once.

anyway i figured if the Mazda isnt getting the right readings from all sensors the monitor vacumm it could throw off the fuel trim at idle and WOT.

so i said let me cut away some of te nipple and see if there is a hole in it............sure enough half way down the nipple the hole appeared...i had to snip it 2 times to get it, cause it was down kinda far.

anyway with the battery disconnected whie i was doing this.............i reconnected the vac line there and bolted everything up. started the car.............let it run for 5 mins idle ..............and then 5 mins idle with the A/C on............and then went driving.........feels like more power to and better throttle response.

171miles later...............no CEL..........not saying it wont but so far this fixed it.......

no my question is......how many people here have the Injen CAI on their car and did u really look at the entire intake before u put it on......i didnt or else i may have seen that sooner........

go check and see if the hole is closed off on urs and get back to me if it is.

im curious to know how many more if any got shipped like this with that nipple defect.

and how many pepole have CEL's if it is like that.

hopefully u see what im getting at. just check it out...it'll take like 10 seconds.

but i took a trip to NJ yesterday to go to 6 flags..............got home late last nite.

trip meter is at 724miles. and still no CEL. and the accelaration and idle seems so much better.......maytbe its a mental thing but i seem to be getting better gas milage as well.

3 hour trip one way........used just under a 1/4 tank.....and i drive very hard at times.

but we'll see......i'll keep everyone posted.

any pics of what you're talking about? or a diagram? sorry if i sound newb but i plan to purchase either an AEM or Injen CAI simply due to the fact CP-E is a f-ing rip job. and besides i have the 2.3L. maybe if i had the 3.0 V6 then i'd opt for it...

obviously my main concern is getting the CEL once purchasing one of these. so far only one that hasnt thrown a CEL (from reading through other forums)is the Fujita CAI. oh, also i've heard that ATX don't throw CEL's as frequent with either a AEM or Injen, over the MTX. MTX's seem to get them more frequently once installing a CAI.

sorry.......didnt get the pics yet......its been puring down rain here since yesterday.......but i just hit 995 miles as i pulled into my driveway tonite.

still no CEL................better gas milage is defianatly there.......havent calculated exactly how much but its better than when the light was on..........may be a mental thing but i rode around all day today and didnt use as much gas as i nomally would.

so far this lil' fix is seeming like a fix for the CEL and other things like(smoother accel, and better idle, also there isnt anymore surge on decel...like when ur accelerating then quickly let off the gas)

so far so good!
