Default Hood Won't Open, Battery's is Dead

Hey Guys,

My roommate has an 07 Mazda6. The hood latch has been broken and on the list to get fixed. The real problem is that the battery is dead (due to a map light left on over night) and now we can't pop the hood to jump the car. We tried to use one of the chargers through the cigarette lighter, but since you've got to have the key turned for the cigarette lighter to work, it seems counter productive. We left it plugged in with the key turned for about 20 minutes. Radio and lights came on pretty dim, but not enough juice to turn the car over.

Any thoughts? Use the charger through the cigg lighter for longer? Any tricks for opening the hood? I don't think the line is broken, I think the latch might just be jammed.

Any help is appreciated.

When you pull the hood release do you feel like the handle isn't attached to anything? The cable might have become detached. If you can't reattach it, pull on the end with a vice grips, that should release the hood.
