Is it a good idea to get a used 07 Mazda6 with the recalled takata airbag?
I'm really liking this 2007 Mazda6 I found, but the problem is that it still has the recalled takata airbag which has recently been recalled. If anyone is unaware, it's killed 5 people by essentially exploding open in low-speed crashes, sending sharp metal flying at peoples' faces. I called a local mazda dealer and they said they have no replacements now and aren't sure when they will come in, because takata is trying to replace millions of recalled airbags.
So basically, should I avoid this and not buy the car? Or should it be fine if I go ahead and get one and just wait out the recall. It's been shown that high humidity is a risk factor for the exploding airbag, and I live in Wisconsin, so the risk should be pretty low. But you never want this sort of thing to happen, ya know?
