Smile DiY: Cabin Air Filter Change on Mazda 6

it's behind the glove box. Open the glove box and then push the top corners in to release the stops and let the box swing down a little farther. On the right side of the box there is stop cable/string that you need to release slowly so the box can be removed (re-attach later).
Remove the string to further let glove box down (use screwdriver to pry it).
Or just remove whole thing like the video. Glove box can literally be removed.

Inside the opening you will see the main fan/air-duct and a horizontal cover plate about an 10-12 inches long and an inch high. The filter is behind that plate.
Pull bottom tabs toward you on either side.
Make sure you put in the new filter the right way, with the arrow pointing in the direction of the airflow. It will not go in straight; you have to angle it for part of the travel into the compartment.

It's that time of year to Vaccuum or Change your Cabin Filter as dirt has built up and leaves fallen. You'll need a clean one for winter defrost!.
Vaccuum it yearly and change every 3 years. Mazda charges 0.2 of hour to change it and $25 for filter totalling $50 Canadian 2 years ago.

That's without vaccuuming! LOL. Didn't know there was a mileage factor, thanx.
I wouldn't let my filter go past 1 year without vaccuuming!
2 weeks ago i cleaned the inside of my windshield and it was dirty again---hence the vaccuuming. Next week i'll clean the inside of windshield for the last time til spring. Also getting my yearly rust proofing checked as well as winter tires put on and brakes serviced.

Gonna get a new one with infused carbon for better odor control after the leaves are done falling. Can't just vaccuum this time!
Time for Winter tires as well.
Video on post 1 to DiY.

I finally installed it today without any tools! Leaves all fallen, snow outside, snow tires on for a few weeks.
Installed a ATP # RA-15:

Since it was only 1 year old, I am vaccuuming it. I don't drive alot and am shocked at all the crap in there!
I also vaccuumed my main K&N air filter and put on the water proof plastic sock.
Here's the dirty cabin air filter after 1 year:
