Disarming Side Air Bags?
I am going to replace my cloth interior with leather(2007 Mazda6 ) In the process, all seats must be removed as well as the cloth fabric. Has anyone else done this on their own? If so, how did you disarm the SIDE AIR BAG system? How do you remove the SIDE AIR BAG panel on each of the front seats?
Thank You!

I would rather be protected by the air bags than sitting on leather. Taking them out will probably turn the dash warning light on and let's hope the remaining bags will work when you need them.
Cute Response! Let me clear it up for you. After I'm done installing the leather interior I will be Arming the Air Bags. WOW! What a surprise!!!
My question was to anyone who knew how to disarm the Side Air Bags. Since you don't know how you need to keep quiet.

Beware, airbags have capacitors in them that store a charge after the battery has been disconnected.
The SAB door is a part of the airbag assembly and is installed to the seat after the seat is trimmed up. There are 2 bolts that attach it to the seat frame.

"Ask A Mazda Mechanic" provided me with the answer to Disarming Side Air Bags(before removing the front seats to install a New Leather Interior in my 2007 Mazda6) The safest way is to disconnect the car battery and wait 30 minutes or more before disconnecting any wires associated the SRS system.Disconnect all connections on bottom of Drivers/Passenger seat and remove the seats from the car. Once seats are out of car, disconnect the wires located on top of the Side Air Bag Modules(located on outer sides of each seat behind the Plastic Panels labeled SRS Side Air Bag) Reverse entire procedure when putting the seats back into the car. Check your SRS lights onyour dash panel. Assuming you've followed the instructions you should be good to go.
