We recently brought my wife's '06 Mazda6 to the mechanic to have some brake work and a headlight replaced. I was told that the car comes with HIDs and that the bulb was fine but the unit needed to be replaced. This was going to come at the expense of $900 for new and $700 for used.

Now this may seem crazy but I have no intention on spending that much on a headlight that may or may not blow on the opposite side later in life as well.

Is there a way to convert down from the HIDs to a standard setup so I do not have to deal with this again?
