Default Code reader

anyone have a recommendation for a code reader? I want something that can show live conditions and also the freeze frame date.

Was thinking about this.

occassionally I'm getting some communication error, the thing loses connection with the computer in the car. not sure if its a loose connection or I'm unplugging it wrong, getting a U100 code or something, the same thing happened at the mechanics with one of their code readers in the past.

just kind of annoying.

I connect the scanner, then turn the key in the ignition (don't start the car) and wait. sometimes it would not connect for some reason.
