My 2003 3.0 Mazda 6 is having a problem when I accelerate in 2nd through 5th gear at around 3500rpm it continuues to gain rpms but adds no power to the wheels until it reaches about 5500-6000rm then the acceleration catches up. anyone kno what's going on?

Sounds like a slipping clutch you got there. With a clutch in good shape, at any speed and in any gear, any visible increase in RPM should happen in parallel with a noticeable change in vehicle speed.

that would be my verdict as well. when you accelerate you will definitely feel more power given to you vehicle at the same time.

Try taking off in 2nd gear. If it is a bad clutch, you'll be spinning the clutch and not go anywhere.
