Default Check Engine light/Blown Fuse

Yesterday morning when I got in my carmy check engine light was on(I accelerated fairly hard and fast before I noticed the light) First I checked the gas cap to make sure it was on all the way and it was. Then I called the Mazda dealership and they were going to charge $50-$100 just to run the diagnostic check, so I went to Auto Zone to have it done for free. When the guy plugged the unit into my car however, it was unable to register anything. He told me I might have a blown fuse somewhere between the computer and where the machine plugs in and that is why the machine is not able to run the diagnostic check. He said to replace the fuse and come back... one problem though, I have NO idea what fuse it might be! Anyone able to help? I want to fix my car!!! But I dont want to spend a TON of money either! I would really appreciate any input. Thank you!

Maybe his code reader did not have the correct software to read our system. I say take it to the dealer. At least it will get read properly.
