Default Adding to the stock stereo

I wanted to keep the stock head unit but add a sub and an amp. Can it be done? I took my 6 down to Best Buy and they said that it couldn't. They said they had one that they tried to do it to but fried the whole electrical system. Maybe they were just blowing smoke up my @$$. Any ideas?

Do not know why adding a sub or amp would cause any problems with the system. They are simply taking the output signal from the stereo and boosting it. I know that you have to be very careful when removing the audio unit as there are some circuit boards mounted to the sides of the audio unit that can be damaged if not very careful. Believe me, I have done it twice now. Maybe that is what they are talking about. Maybe check with a few other stereo shops and see what they have to say.

[Yeah Umm what Best Buy said is BS....I work for Circuit City, and I have a MTX 12in Sub. and a 800 watt Amp...and it's all running through the factory head unit....Take it up to THE CITY we will hook you up!!! All you need is a Metra part that we carry...it's really simple...Best Buy just messes up things, we fix cars they mess up all the time..lol...
