2005 Mazda 6s V6 Acceleration Problems
Please help. Any input is greatly appreciated.
I have a 2005 Mazda 6s V6. I bought it used from a dealership. There is no warranty left on it. It has about 60K miles on it. I have trouble when I try to accelerate too fast. The rpm's rev up real high, the car shudders and then it won't go. I have this trouble going up hills especially.
I've taken the car to about 6 different mechanics and I've gotten 4-5 different opinions. A couple said the valve body needed to be replaced, another said I needed a new transmission, and yet another said there was nothing wrong with it and that I was being too hard on the car. I'm not trying to race the car I just want to be able to drive it safely on the highway.
My next move will be to take it to a Mazda dealer, but I'm afraid they will take me to the cleaners.
Any ideas?

Hard to say. Has the air filter been replaced and had the throttle body cleaned? You may just need a simple tune up. The shop that siad you needed a new tranny; did they make any comments about the conditon of the fluid?

You want to try the least expensive fixes first. Usually at each 30,000 mile interval, a tune up is reccomended (often packaged as "30,000 mile service") that includes things such as oil change, new spark plugs and a fuel system cleaning. BTW, did you get the owner's manual when you bought the car? Lots of good-to-konw stuff in there. You are also due for a transmission flush too.
From what you are saying I assume it's an automatic, as 93greenstrat must have?
If the engine feels like it's dying and will not pull the car, it may be a fuel issue. Mine acted like that and it turned out to be the MAF sensor. I later had trouble with the fuel purge valve and that needed to be replaced also.
If when you are trying to go the engine revs up but the car goes no where (what I assume you mean,) it does indeed sound like a transmission. It's not liable to be a cheap fix if that's the case.
I would suggest checking the fluid level and color, or taking it to your local transmission (automatic) shop. The fluid should be a clear (transparent) red or clear light brown. If it's dark brown or black, or murky looking, you've likely got a catastrophic problem.
Modern automatics are all controlled by a computer. If the fluid level and color look good, it may be a faulty trans PCM.
If it is the trans, there is very little you can do on your own. Get out the checkbook.
