Default 2003 6 -Check engine light P0442

Have a 2003 Mazda 6 V6 and I am getting the code P0442, mechanic says change the air vent and purge canister solenoid. Is this under recall as I have seen numerous problems with it? thanks

I just got my 06 mazda6s back with warranty repair. This is very similar to yours.

from dealer note:
25214 purge solenoid 1.5 performed computer test and found code P0455 evap stored in system.Perrformed smoke test to evap system and found no leaks. Activated purge smoke test to evap system and found no leaks. Activated purge through IDS and purge was ticking as it should. Performed vacuum test on purge valve and found value not holding proper vacuum. Replaced purge solenoid and cleared code. Test drove vehicle and retested system with IDS and system Passed. F 008XDX, F0607ARX. Tech 1946

Can you provide me with some help on changing out a purge solenoid valve? I'm not sure what i'm looking for under the hood. The dealer said it was the cause of my CEL and i need $450 to change it... so instinctively i said no... If you can please provide directions and pictures. Thanks
