$800 for a tonneau cover?!
The trunk cover on my Mazda6 SportWagon won't retract anymore. How much could it cost to replace, I figured? Well, the dealer says just under $800 for the whole assembly (which includes a net which attaches to the roof). There is not more than $100 worth of metal, plastic and engineering in this thing, and that's being generous.
Any suggestions where I can find it cheaper, or have it fixed? Tried for local junkyards, but this car is not popular enough it seems to have many parts around...
TIA.

DAMN!!! $800 for what amounts to a vinyl window shade?
It'd be cheaper and easier to lose the damned thing free up some usable space and get some dark window tint. I never liked those things anyway and have removed them in the three vehicles I've owned that had them.

RE: $800 for a tonneau cover?!
I agree completely, even the dealership parts guys are shocked when they see the figure on their screen. I tried a couple of different places, just to make sure, and they all had the same reaction. Some parts dealer depts even gave me numbers for local wreckers. I wish I could just lose the damn thing, but the car has to go back off lease at the end of Oct...

Isn't it covered under warranty? Would they miss "the damned thing" if it wasn't there?
Unfortunately, they are usually vehicle specific I'm sure, one of the reasons they probably cost so much, and you'd no doubt need one designed for a 6 Sp Wgn.
