Don't hold your breath for a reply, their response times are variable. My advice would be to contact different "local" dealers and get the Service Managers advice. In my experience the dealerships can have differing levels of commitment, you are not stuck to the supplying dealership for warranty claims.

Kev, there is no problem with front tyre wear - it's all in your imagination.

Repeat this several hundred times, and you too could be as brainwashed as me.

Then expect denial of any fronttyre wear! The best line on this forum for months was Dave's comparison to Men in Black's neuralizer last Monday. I know just what he means.

Hi all,

I am a newer for this forum. I just put my deposit on a new Mazda 5 Sport TD and suppose to pick the car in 2 weeks. Thinking about the tyres problem, do u think i should cancel my order.... really hit me hard this time. What is the best thing i should do.

Do I think you should cancel ? Well, in short, YES unless Mazda can confirm that there has been a change/fix...

If it were not for (a) the tyre wear issue and (b) Mazda Customer Service (and I use the word Service very loosely), my advice may be different but unless things have changed, you will be paying close to £500 every 12k for tyres. I would expect to get a minimum of double that and perhaps even triple from the tyres so for most people, I think it's fair to say that it adds two or three hundred quid a year to motoring expenses. Being the larger wheeled Sport and having the heavier diesel engine only makes it worse. There also has to be a question mark over residual value. Read a few reviews here or on What Car's readers reviewsand would want to buy a second hand example ?

I could put up with the noise from the power steering on full lock and tolerate the rear seatbelt housing coming off. I'd even turn up the stereo to cover the knocking from the rear suspension. What I couldn't put up with is being treated like an idiot by Mazda Customer Services

If your heart's set on it and you still want one, going for a lower spec with the smaller wheels may (repeat may) eliminate the tyre problem.

Sad really, I still think it's the best looking of the bunch but it is, to me, fatally flawed so I'm going to be looking at Citroen's C4 Grand Picasso and maybe the S Max come next Spring.

ref your knocking rear suspension, have you checked the shocks? I recently had one go and it banged like hell over uneven road surfaces. Oily deposits on the outer shock are a sure sign!

Hi All, after picking up my 5 deisel sport on 1/9/07 I was determined to keep an eye on the tyre wear. I have just completed 2.5K and have been outside to measure depths. On average they have dropped about 1mm max and all wear is consistant and even on all 4 tyres. Projected wear is about 20Kbut its a bit early to tell. It does seem however that Mazda have sorted the problem and that for owners with chassis numbers above that I previously posted should be OK (please post if you find different).My car is fitted with Dunlops by the way. My only bug bear is the average fuel consumption reported by the trip computer is very much 'optomistic' that said i'm getting betwen 42 and 45 mpg which is not bad on a new engine. I will post again after xmas.

Thanks for your message. I've already had one shock replaced under warranty and my guess is that this will probably be the other side. I know I should get it back in to the dealership but it's just further hassle...

with the regards to woody out of intrest what type of tyres are fitted to your car. i am that fed up with the way that mazda are handling this that i am thinking of trading my car in. does anyone no where i would stand legaly on refusing this car

What a sorry tale it is, I'm looking for what people have been told (by Dealers/Mazda) regarding solutions on a thread I started to try & save having to go all through this monster !
