hi all i aslo have the problem with the rear tyre wear. my car has done 6000 miles and the nearside rear inner tread is down to 3.5mm . have hade the wheel alingment done and this made it worse as this wose done at 2000 miles.
i read that a lot of you have had problems with front tyre wear and yous were asking if you had had the tyres rotated. this has nothing to do with it it all comes down to the rear wheel alingment if the rear is out it causes the car to crab not bad enough that you can feel it but thats what the problem is.

this isnt the only time mazda has had this problem when they first launched the 1992 mazda 626 this had the same problem but rear wheel alingment solved this problem.

as a former mechanic for mazda i cant help but notice that its only the sports that are having the problem which makes me think that the offset on the wheels mite be wrong.

as there was someone that posted saying that they changed to 18" wheels and have had no problem and also that the other models with 16" wheels are ok to.

i am waiting on mazda to get back to me with regards replacing the tyres and a resolve for this problem.
have also told them wife going on 800 mile round trip and if there is no fix by then that they will have to give me a replacment vehicle as she will not be taking this with 2 adults and 4 kids in car which they have agreed to.

will just have to see if they are true to there word

will keep yous up to date

It's the same setup as the 3. What I did was climb under there w/2 - 17mm wrenches (raise and support the car first, of course.) On the back of thelower inner control armis a scale. Clean it off and using a marker, mark where the factory setting is. Then loosen the locking nut using one wrench, and turn the other until you've lengthened the lower control arm (toward the affected tire) approximately 1.5 lines from where it was. Then re-tighten to locking nut.
It's a crude adjustment, I admit, and depending on the wear you are experiencing you may want to go more or less on that adjustment or just on one side, but it will help A LOT!! You'll be able to see and feel the difference.
I'm not a big fan of a lot of rear neg camber in a FWD car in the first place. It only adds to the vehicles tendency to understeer, which it will still do justless than before.
Try it! You'll like it!!

OK back from my local Mazda dealer.

They replaced all 4 tyres due to wearing inner edges. Pirelli's. ( they used these codes for the fault and fix A0710A SC99 DC99 OP XXC037R5).
Thencarried out the 4 wheel alignment with adjustments(using these codes A0710A SC99 DC99 OP XXC037R2).
Only the cost of the tyres were split between Mazda and myself (66% Mazda and 34% me) and this was done at cost price. I paid £56.68. The alignment and adjustments was all warrenty. They assured me thatwhat they have done will fix the problem and that I won't need to go back!

hi all
did anyone else get the great letter from mazda saying what the problems with the tyre wear are.

what concerns me is the point that states tyre construction had a point to do with it, so does that mean that the tyres are faulty have spoken to mazda and asked if my car was safe to drive as it still has the origonal tyres on it.

it also states that , measures have been taken to resolve this issue by reducing the tolerances in which the rear suspension operates and by the introduction of a different tyre construction in production.

this would then make me think that there is a problem with the tyres.

have brought this up with mazda and i have to wait till monday for a reply to wether my car is safe to drive or not.

no car for me at the weekend

will keep yous posted

Hi,
haven't seen this letter, any chance of making it public? I could do with cheering up.

Hi
Owner of a 5 sport since October 05, to date have 11100 miles on clock
I got the tyre wear recall letter from Mazda on 28-9-07
I rang Wolverhampton Mazda to arrangethe check up of the tyres, i wasasked if i had any wear i told the service guy on the phone that i have wear on all four inside edges he said that was unusual as if that really was the first he had heard of tyre wear.I was toldthat the car had to be in the garage all day- how long does it take to check four tyres?

Have you seen "Men In Black", with the neuralizer device that erases your short term memory? Think about it, Lowell and Cuningham had to get the idea from somewhere.

Hi again folks,

Finally got my rear tyres replaced last week, 70% mazda 30% me, £65,which at 20000 miles seemed reasonable-ish. The dealer had to have the car overnight as my NSR shocker was leaking and they didn't have a replacement in stock- thats both of the rear shockers replaced at 20000 miles! Anyhow, had a good look around he car on return and was horrified that the tyres appeared soft, new valves had not been fitted, despite appearing on the invoice and that the rear suspension appeared to be untouched- no sign of any adjustment or indeed even a spanner being applied anywhere. Further investigation revealed that my fronts that were replaced at 10000 due to inner edge wear are on the way out again, despite an alleged 4 wheel alignment check, not on the invoice but definately carried out..... Checked out the tyre pressures later and they were at 29psi on the two new tyreson the rear!

Quick call to the now rather exasperated service manager later and the car is due back in later this week. I'm sick of this game now- once the tyres are sorted out I think it's time to cut my loses and move on. It's a shame because I love driving the car, it handles everything I throw at it with aplomb, but I really can't stand it not being right and spending so much time in the dealer with faults that should never have existed in the first place.

I'm scunnered!

I too have the same problems with my tyre wear on my Mazda 5 Sport. It is an 06 (56 plate) model 2.0litre diesel Sport 143bhp model, and i have just started the process of trying to find out the problems, and how to get them resolved.

If anyone has any names, and contact numbers they can help me with to try to get to the bottom of this it would be hugely appreciated.
I have been told to get a 4-wheel alignment done, which was carried out today, and came back as all being fine.
The tyres were measured for depth and were noted as 0mm inside - 4mm centre - 0mm outside on both front tyres, and rears were at 7mm across the tread.

I am in desperate need of new tyres on the front, but dont know what is causing this, and need help asi feel i am getting the brush off from the dealer.

HELP!!!
