I've just been diagnosed with the Mazda tyre disease - outer fronts and inner rears are bald after less than a year and 20k miles (Diesel Sport). Am in process of shouting at everyone.

Customer service operator said they were "not aware" of any tyre issues and, anyway, "we don't talk to the technical team" - great service.

Will keep you posted

Which dealer did you go to?

They need putting straight on a matter or two. I trust you gave thim this web address to catch upwith things ?

Shouting makes you feel better........ But best state your expectations to the dealer calmly. i.e. tell him that you want 4 new tyres, the geometry resetting. Tell him to talk to Nicole or Jon at MMUK they know all about it!
Oh, then tell him that you are not interested in any percentage wear calculation to work out your costs.....
It is Mazda fault.. They should fix it and pay until they do...

Do keep us posted.....

Spoke to my dealer's service manager this morning. Surprise, surprise, this is not the first Mazda 5 he's had with premature tyre wear. He first suggested that he would have to see the car, but the tyres are in such a state that my local garage told me to keep it off the road. He then said that I should take the old tyres into my local dealer. They've had a bulletin around about premature wear on the rear tyres and that geometry settings need to be changed. Mazda UK are offering a partial 'goodwill' claim on the rears and no compensation for the fronts. He said that their (the dealer's) hands were tied on this and I would need to take it up with Mazda UK - any advice gratefully received. Thanks

Matpip - I had the same problems - head in the sand atitude.
Suggest you contact Mazda UK by phone, complain and get a incident ref number which logs the complaint/fault.
Take your tyres into your local dealer and tell them to contact Mazda about the known tyre problems with rears and fronts.
Copy any tyre purchase receipts and hand them to the dealer, as they will have to fill in a two page form for your claim.
I have been offered 2/3rds of a refund for 4 tyres having done 12k miles - mind you it has been over a week since I accepted and no cheque yet.
My car is due back with the dealer on 4th June for repairs to the door during its last visit to adjust the camber - I will ask about the refund again.
So dig your heels in and ask for a full refund and hope to get 2/3rd back at least - I didn't need the hassle so I accepted the offer - others will hold out for a full refund.

Have now logged my complaint with Mazda UK. They say there's not much they can do until I have been given a compensation offer by my dealer. Only when I reject this (which I will - by phone they stated no refund for the front tyres) will the complaints procedure really kick in. But it's not my dealer I have the problem with, to be honest, it's Mazda UK.

Indeed you are right most of the dealers are doing a sterling job in trying to sort the problem. They are getting little if any support from MMUK.

I don't think we would have got this far without the support of our dealers!

Don't forget to take photo's and post them on this site and send them to Jon Smith etc...

Hi,

A quick update for you on my progress with the tyre wear etc, I have now had all four tyres replaced after 12,000 and the dealership only charged me £145.00! On the invoice it does state that all 4 tyres are being replaced under warranty, so I am wondering if the dealerships have now been given orders from MMUK to accept the issue with the fronts too! I asked the dealership that very question and they fobbed me offbyreferring to it as a goodwill gesture, but the invoice clearly states that it is a warranty payment.
Four wheel re-alignment also done and I have all the paperwork. The adjustments look huge so could this be a solution to the problem at long last??? Knowing Mazda, the outer edges will now start to wear!

I have all of the previous andnew goemetry settings if anyone wants to compare them.

Good luck!

MMUK payed out on our fronts many moons ago. I don't like all this talk of good will.
What they are forgetting is the good will we are giving them!!!Putting up with the constant running back and forth to the dealers, days without our cars, the stress of chasing them up, moaning on the forum,etc.....

Can you post the settings for all to see?
Then I can compare them with the settings on my car after it has been in next month.

Thanks

Hi

I've just had my alignment figures back from Mazda and I wondered if anybody out there could help me understand them.

Front Wheels Right/Left
Check/Adjust/Steering Angle/Check/Adjust
0mm / 0mm TOE 2.5mm / 2mm
-30' / -30' CAMBER -45% / -45%
3 - 15' / 3 - 15' CASTER 3 - 30' / 3 - 30'
24 / 24 SET BACK 26 / 25

Rear Wheels Left/Right
1mm Pos / 1mm Pos TOE 2.5mm Pos / 1mm Pos
-1 - 45' / -1 - 45' CAMBER -2 / -2
Flag 15 / Flag 15 THRUST LINE Flag 13.5 / Flag 15

I'd ask MMUK or the dealership but I'd expect them to tell me that it's all "within the manufacturer's tolerance specs..."

On a separate note, MMUK (who paid for the alignment and one rear tyre) have today written that they're not prepared to pay any more. I'm not going to give up yet and will have one last try with them. If this fails, Iplan totry a different approach. It maynot recoup any of my losses but it has become a matter of principle.Mazda'stactics have been clear from day one. To deny any problem and therefore "divide and conquer",to negotiate the minimum payoutsand to prolong these negotiations in order to grind the customers down.

Will update with further in due course.

Dave
