Default Timing chain replacement

PANIC. My Mazda 5 has just developed the timing chain rattle. If I’m going to change the tensioner I may as well change the lot. Are there instructions anywhere on how to change it? I believe the timing marks won’t be a problem. There’s no Haynes manual and the owners workshop manual doesn’t help.

There are no timing marks. You need specialised timing tools to lock the cams & crank.

Thanks for that it’s saved me a lot of swearing. Mazda 3 locking kit is a tenner on eBay. Any idea where I can get a Mazda5 kit from. Is it the same as 2.0 Mazda5?

Could it be be that it’s only the tensioner thats simply giving up at 80k miles and the chain is OK. FSH.

Same LF series engine. Also, you must replace the lock washers on the crankshaft. Replace the tensioner, guides & VVT actuator while you're in there.
