Default Potential New Owner - Dog Trainer

Hey everybody! I am a dog trainer, and currently on the hunt for a new ride to carry the doggos around. I've considered the typical contractor vans, but being so poor on gas, I have shifted focus to the Mazda5. While I hateeee the idea of driving a mini-van, the Mazda5 seems much sportier than most others, and with a few touches, can probably look even better. I have a Mazda Miata now as a daily driver, so I think a Mazda5 would compliment it nicely.

TL : DR - Can somebody please tell me the minimum distance for the rear cargo space side-to-side? I will need to put 2 large crates side by side in the back, measuring about 46-47" wide. Crate 1 is 22" and the other is 24" wide.

Can somebody please tell me the most common issues with the Mazda5 and what I should expect? I do all my own work on the Miata and have learned a ton, so I am hoping some of the knowledge is transferrable. I know all the typical maintenance issues/maintenance schedules for the Miata, just looking to learn more about the Mazda5 before jumping in and grabbing one.

THANKS!
Chris
